West Ham secured their fourth league win in a row as they returned to the top of the Championship with a thumping 6-0 win over Wrexham at the London Stadium. It was a marvellous display of attacking football from Nuno Espírito Santo's side, who swept to victory with room to spare and six different scorers.
Jarrod Bowen got the ball rolling after 28 minutes, Joel Piroe made it two before the break, then Konstantinos Mavropanos, Taty Castellanos, Mohamadou Kante and Manor Solomon all scored in the second half as the Welsh side were dealt a hiding. The performance was further evidence the Hammers are finding their feet in the second tier after failing to win any of their first three games following Premier League relegation.
They should have led inside seven minutes, Castellanos sending a free header from Solomon's cross over from six yards. Bowen then got clear in the box from a quick throw, but his shot was turned against the crossbar by a reflex save from Anthony Patterson. From the corner that resulted, Mavropanos headed a foot wide at the far post.
Piroe was guilty of an awful miss midway through the half, leaning back and blasting high into the Wrexham fans behind Patterson's goal. Bowen showed him how it was done a minute later. Morato's cross from the right was timed perfectly into the six-yard box, where the home side's captain was arriving ahead of Jacques Ekomie to guide it into the far corner.
Mavropanos cleared off the line from George Dobson with Mads Hermansen beaten, which proved to be the closest Wrexham would come to a goal. Castellanos stayed onside and strode on to a through pass before unselfishly squaring the ball for Piroe to make it 2-0 before the break.
Patterson prevented Solomon from putting the game beyond Wrexham in the first two minutes of the second half, racing from his goal to smother the forward's low shot. It would be a momentary reprieve and under a minute later it was 3-0. From Bowen's corner, Mavropanos was left free inside the six-yard box to head home.
Bowen flashed a shot inches wide after cutting inside as the besieged visitors teetered on the edge of an all-out collapse in east London. West Ham's fourth came from a Wrexham corner. A poor ball into the box was collected by Kyle Walker-Peters, who dashed away on the counter, exchanging passes before teeing up Castellanos to slot the ball into the corner.
Kanté came off the bench and made it 5-0, a lovely rising finish after being sent clear by Solomon, then the Israel international completed the rout with a deflected shot via a post.

West Ham United returned to the top of the Championship in emphatic fashion as they swept aside Wrexham 6-0 to claim a fourth successive victory. Jarrod Bowen continued his impressive start to the season by opening the scoring from close range shortly before the half-hour mark. Joel Piroe doubled the hosts' advantage before half-time, with West Ham turning on the style after the break. Konstantinos Mavropanos, Taty Castellanos, Mohamadou Kante and Manor Solomon were also all on target as the leaders underlined their dominance with a rampant victory.
It was a sobering night for Wrexham, who suffered their heaviest league defeat in 22 years. Both sides showed plenty of changes following midweek games with Wrexham's six new faces including a debut for defender Joe Worrall. The hosts enjoyed the majority of the possession in the opening stages in which Castellanos headed over from Solomon's cross.
A determined run from the outstanding Bowen into the area then saw him unleash a shot which Anthony Patterson managed to divert on to the post. From the resulting corner Mavropanos' header was wide of the target with Max Kilman failing to apply a final touch at the far post. Piroe fired over before West Ham's pressure finally told and it was their talisman Bowen with his sixth goal of the season. On-loan Divine Mukasa and Solomon combined to set up Morato, whose low cross was met by Bowen to net from close range. With West Ham firmly in control, Wrexham were pinned back in their own half for most of the opening period and restricted to rare counter attacks. Danny Imray saw a shot blocked while George Dobson - facing his boyhood club - saw his shot cleared off the line by Mavropanos, who had initially lost possession. No sooner had Wrexham missed the chance to level that West Ham went further ahead as Castellanos beat the offside trap to set up Piroe to fire home. The hosts kicked off the second half in the same vein as Bowen's long pass found Solomon who was denied by Patterson before Mavropanos extended their lead a minute later from Bowen's corner. West Ham were impressive on the counter-attack from one such move Bowen fired wide before substitute Kyle Walker-Peters' fine run set up Castellanos to slot home the home side's fourth. Kante received the ball over the top from Solomon to make it 5-0 with 14 minutes remaining. Solomon then capped a man-of-the-match performance and was rewarded with the final goal when his left-footed shot beat the goalkeeper off the post.
It was a sensational display from the Hammers and a warning to their Championship rivals. Wrexham, who had only conceded five goals in their previous six games, will need to regroup before next Saturday's game against Southampton.
