match review copied from the WHU v Southampton programme dated 31 August 1970 NO JOY AT LEEDS
We gained little satisfaction from our League match v Leeds United at Elland Road last Wednesday, when the Yorkshire club retained their 100 per cent record to become clear leaders of the table.
We opened well; a clearance off the line in the fourth minute was followed by a great save from Sprake after an excellent upfield move. However, United fought back and twice struck the woodwork.
We seemed likely to remain on level terms at the breather, until a penalty-kick awarded for hands gave Leeds a margin that they increased ten minutes after the interval, and from thence onwards we were hard put.
A minute from the end came the third goal of an unwelcome defeat.
. . . So, we have still to gain our first point at Elland Road since Leeds' return to the First Division seven years ago.
